Message from the Head Chaplain on the death of Lt Gen Earley

On behalf of the Chaplaincy Service, I extend my deepest sympathy to the Earley family on the death of Lt Gen Dermot Earley, our former Chief of Staff.

His was a style which inspired and encouraged. His personal warmth and approachability endeared him also to many groups in the wider community.

As a military leader, he had time for every member of the Defence Forces regardless of rank. This made him one of the greatest leaders this country is fortunate to have had.

His support for and encouragement of the Chaplaincy Service is well-documented and he will be deeply missed. We have been priveleged to serve with him at home and overseas.

Our pastoral visits in recent months were moments of grace and wholesome goodness. I know that many friends in uniform and in community life will keep the Earley family in our prayers at this time.

Some of you might like to send your own greeting directly to the family by clicking on the link above. I will ensure that every message is passed on to the family and am sure that it will be another sign of solidarity in the weeks and years ahead.

Suaimhneas síoraí dó i measc na Naoimh.

Msgr Eoin Thynne
Head Chaplain to the Forces

Homily will be online from Saturday morning

Suaimhneas síoraí tabhair dó, a Thiarna

Suaimhneas faoi shíocháin dó. Amen.
