Click above to read the full text of Pope Benedict's message for World Day of Prayer for Peace 2012 entitled “Educating Young People in Justice and Peace” ...Young people by their nature are open to these attitudes, but the social reality in which they grow up can lead them to think and act in the opposite way, even to be intolerant and violent. Only a solid education of their consciences can protect them from these risks and make them capable of carrying on the fight, depending always and solely on the power of truth and good.
This education begins in the family and is developed at school and in other formative experiences. It is essentially about helping infants, children and adolescents to develop a personality that combines a profound sense of justice with respect for their neighbour, with a capacity to address conflicts without arrogance, with the inner strength to bear witness to good, even when it involves sacrifice, with forgiveness and reconciliation. Thus they will be able to become people of peace and builders of peace.

Christmas Charity collection
The Army No 1 Band played Christmas carols and seasonal favourites during lunchtime on Monday 19 December 2011 at College Green, Dublin. A presentation will be made to Holles Street and to Trócaire in January 2012.

It's a regular feature of our day that personnel check the Notice Board for information of Duty, Courses, Routine Orders - and for leave applications! I hope that this website will be another means of linking for all in the Defence Forces.
Military personnel have always led the way in communications and the last century saw a rapid development in skills, technology and equipment in many armies.
In recent years the Electronic Notice boards have provided a valuable way of passing information within each unit. We can see the latest courses, photos of various parades and events and follow the progress of friends in a different formation.
No matter what the means of communication, everyone of us values a sense of belonging as part of the military family. I hope that these Chaplaincy pages will provide you with an insight into the range of pastoral care and spiritual support which is available to personnel at home and overseas.
Some of you who visit this website may be working overseas and wish to keep in touch with colleagues at home. Be assured of the prayers of the chaplains for you in your work.
Others who are browsing these pages might value a prayer at a particular time of the week. There's no substitute for a chat with your chaplain. Many of them have skills which benefit the military community which they serve and also the families and a wider community.
